Waste batteries and the Three Gorges Project

( Abstract )

Waste batteries are a common sight on the street. Beepers alone use 840 million batteries annually. It's a lot of money if somebody recycled them. What a pity we threw them away and buried them in the ground. In addition, the mercury and cadmium can be poisonous to people and animals. Waste battery is a world problem.

Water quality in the upper stream of Yangtze River is very poor. According to statistics, the total pollution emission of Sichuan Province is 2.04 billion tons. This doesn't include the pollution caused by all the boats and domestic sewage. There is also 21.7 million tons of solid wastes piled along the riverbanks. Foam plastic is also out of control. The heavy pollution of Yangtze River is often ignored. Let's use one less battery, one less plastic bag, for the sake of tomorrow. Let's give up the short-term profit...
