Title: Conservation Director

Location: Beijing, China

Reports to: Country Representative

Supervises: Conservation Programme staff

Position Description:

WWF (World Wide Fund For Nature) has worked to support conservation in the People's Republic of China for over twenty years. Conservation programmes cover issues including climate change, environmental education, protection of endangered species, wildlife trade, and conservation of the country's unique freshwater, forest, marine and high desert steppe ecosystems. WWF currently has 50 staff in six offices around the country.

We are seeking a Conservation Director to take responsibility for overall supervision, coordination and quality control of programmes; development/support of major new initiatives; and representation of WWF China in internal and external forums.

Requirements:

  • At least ten years working experience in nature conservation, environmental protection or sustainable development.
  • Experience working with major donors in the environment sector, including aid agencies, Global Environment facility, private foundations.
  • Good understanding of Chinese environmental issues.
  • A graduate degree in a relevant field.
  • Excellent management and coordination skills.
  • Fluent English (required) and Chinese (preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.

Other preferred qualifications:

Expertise in all aspects of project cycle management. (e.g. problem analysis, proposal development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation) .

Experience working with international environmental organizations, familiarity with WWF's conservation approaches and procedures.
