LEAD National/Regional Training or Academic Director


Recruitment and Terms of Appointment

Recruitment for the position of National/Regional Training or Academic Director shall be carried out in a transparent, open manner, encouraging applications from the widest possible sources.

The Training/Academic Director for a specific LEAD Member Program is jointly appointed by the Chief Executive of LEAD International and that Program.

The governing body of the LEAD Member Program shall act as the employer of the Training/Academic Director, in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations of the jurisdiction of employment. Salary shall be fixed by the Chief Executive of the Program, commensurate with qualifications, local conditions and budgetary constraints.

Each appointment shall be for a specified term (not exceeding three years), renewable twice after a performance evaluation carried out by the governing body of the LEAD Member Program and the Chief Executive Officer of that Program. Appointment letters should clearly state that the appointment is contingent on funds being available each year.

Job description

The Training/Academic Director coordinates the National/Regional Training for the LEAD Member Program. He/she works closely with the other members of the LEAD Program's staff as well as with external faculty, experts and resource persons on the content of the training.

The Training/Academic Director is responsible for the design and execution of the training at the national/regional level. This training shall be compatible with the overall framework of LEAD's training curriculum to which the Training/Academic Director is expected to contribute. His/her inputs include the planning for the training cycle for each Cohort of LEAD Associates, identification and engagement of external experts where needed, development of national/regional training materials and development and implementation of an evaluation mechanism.

The Training/Academic Director shall also ensure that the training will allow LEAD Associates to fully benefit from LEADnet and its services, and that LEAD Associates complete the Associate Projects during their respective training periods.

The Training/Academic Director will integrate the LEAD core modules into the national/regional training and work with peers in the other LEAD Member Programs to share experiences in the planning, implementation and evaluation of their training. This sharing will be facilitated by LEAD International through international meetings and electronic means.

The Training/Academic Director will work directly with LEAD International for the preparation and execution of any International Session held in the Member Program country. He/she will also be available to help with the facilitation at International Sessions outside his/her own country, when necessary.

The Training/Academic Director will be responsible for preparing Associates to fully participate in the International Sessions. He/she will also collaborate with other Programs in the preparation and execution of Mid-Term International Sessions.

The Training/Academic Director will be responsible for updating the content of the National/Regional Program Homepage, using the interface developed by LEADnet coordinator, and providing the LEAD International Training Director and the Chief Executive Officer of that program with training-related information for LEAD development.

As a part of his/her job, the Training/Academic Director will support the Fellows network in the country through events development and execution (e.g. Intercohort meetings, etc.), information sharing, acting as a liaison with LEAD International Fellows Program, and other tasks as deemed necessary by the National Program Director.

Experience

The Training/Academic Director will be an experienced trainer and facilitator for adult informal education activities, preferably with direct experience in the field of environment and development. He/she will have excellent English and communication skills and be familiar with relevant computer communication packages and tools (including email, Internet, etc.) A good network of local and international actors in the field of environment and development is a plus.

Qualifications

Education: The Training/Academic Director should have at least a university degree in a related field and several years experience in education and training. Knowledge of national environment and development issues is essential and some international exposure is desirable.

English: The Training/Academic Director should have excellent spoken English and comprehension and be able to use written English to communicate and for the preparation of reports and any internationally-shared training materials.
