According a bulletin published by State Bureau of Environmental Protection in June 3rd, in 1997, the Three Gorges Project's impact on ecosystem and environment was confined to construction area, and the Yangtze River's ecosystem remained unchanged in general. The monitoring result showed that Three Gorges Projects had not direct impact on natural environment and its influence on the economy and immigration was meager. The forest covering rate was 21.7% in Chongqing reservoir, 32% in Hubei. The water condition in the Yangtze River was basically good, but some cities in the reservoir area showed serious life pollution.
