At the source of Yangtze, Yellow, and Lancang rivers in Qinghai Province of China, the largest natural reserve will be established on August 19th. The state chairman Jiang Zemin inscribed on the stele that "Three River Source Natural Reserve".

The source area of three rivers covers 362,000 square kilometers at 4000 meters above sea level. 25% of the Yangtze River flow, 49% of the Yellow River flow and 15% of the Lancang River flow are coming from this area. The area is home of over 70 species of wild animal.

The Three River Source Natural Reserve covers 318,000 square kilometers, with a central area of 62,000 square kilometers, a buffer zone of 50,000 square kilometers, and an experimental zone of 206,000 square kilometers. This natural reserve is the largest in both China and Asia. The natural reserve consists of 16 counties, with a population of 557,200.
