Ecology in Qilian Mountain Range

( Abstract )

Qilian Mountain Range is the home of many species of wild animal and plants.

This area has 492,800 hectares of forest and the forest coverage is 16.5%. Timber reserve is 22.74 million cubic meters.

The mountain range includes 2,859 glaciers covering 1,972 square kilometers. The rivers foster 4 million people.

Approved by the State Council, a national natural reserve in Qilian Mountain Range was established and covers 2.65 million hectares of land, 5.9% of the territory in Gansu Province. Its core area is 73,000 hectares, the experimental zone is 390,000 hectares and the management zone is 2.19 million hectares.

Due to over development, the ecology is deteriorating in Qilian Mountain range. Environmental protection is very important.
