MR. Hu Angang, a research expert on the state affairs said at a seminar that it is high time for China to speed up ecological construction. Mr. Hu points out that globalization offers China an unprecedented chance to tackle its problem of resource environment under the international regulation. He said that the 1998 flood marked a transition from mass destruction of ecology to mass construction of ecology in China. He thinks that China's economic development is now at a crucial stage of massive structural adjustment, a high time for cutting down on traditional industries that are of high energy consumption and pollution. Mr Hu has put forward several proposals concerning state policies on resources and environment.
