Xie Zhenhua, SEPA director general, recently revealed that during the tenth five-year plan, China had a total of 10 concrete targets for developing the environmental protection.

1. Industrial enterprises will reach to the pollutant emission standard overall.

2. Air and water environmental quality of 100 key environmental protection cities reaches to the standard according to the functional zone.

3. To construct 50 model cities in environment protection and 200 beautiful cities and towns in environment.

4. Water quality of Huaihe River Valley will reach the standard according to the water environment function zone.

5. To effectively control the pollutant emission volume and to do effort to reduce 10% than in 2000.

6. Beijing's water, air and sound environment will reach to the national environment quality standard according to the functional zone. The ecological environment of the city and suburbs will improve remarkably.

7. Water quality of Bohai offshore will basically reach to the standard according to the marine environment function zone.

8. 100 national ecological demonstrative zones and 100 key ecological function zone will be established. The natural reserves will be 12% of the total territory of China.

9. The investment of environmental protection will be 1.2% of the GDP.
