On 1 July, the Office of Agriculture of Hainan Province announced that after droughts, the locust areas in Hainan have come to the locust period. There are locust disasters in southeast, south and west of the province, with a tendency of spreading. The Office of Agriculture is taking measures to keep the locust disasters from spreading.

The Head of the Office of Agriculture explained that since May, Hainan has come to the locust period of this year. He estimated that the locust disasters will cover an area of 53000~67000 hectares and will last until October.

In order to stop the spreading of locust disasters, Hainan Province has established an special organization for this purpose.
