As of June 14 a large-scale locust disaster hit 14 provinces and autonomous regions of China and involved an area 10% larger than the same period last year. Recently the Ministry of Agriculture urgently organized the united elimination of locusts in all corners of the country.

Headquarters of locust prevention and control of the ministry said that due to the continuous drought in recently years, the number of the leftover locusts is big. Adding to the local environmental destruction and the suitable condition for the locusts to grow in last winter, the occurrence of locust disaster is still bigger than the past years. The central finance has arranged RMB50 million in treating the locusts. Locust monitoring network is established in all corners of the country and requires to report once every three days in heavy disastrous areas and report once every seven days in common disastrous areas.
