Large amount of locusts happened in Beijing

( Abstract )

Large amount of locusts happened in Beijing, affecting the farmland of more than 2600 hectares. This is rarely seen in the local history. The drought has lowered the water level in the reservoirs and rivers. The riverbeds have emerged from the water and provided favorite living conditions for locusts. The non-flying locusts are mainly growing around the dried bottomland of the reservoir, affecting 2000 hectares of farmland there. On the river banks in Huairou county, 200 hectares are affected by locusts...

According to a technician from the plant protection station in Beijing, although flying locusts do not grow in Beijing, it is difficult to conclude that whether those from outside Beijing will fly in. He also said that Beijing had got prepared aginst the locust disasters.
