Locusts disturbing Henan, Xingjiang
and Tianjing, and now apporaching Beijing

( Abstract )

The severe drought has facilitated breaking out of plague of locusts. Almost 3.7 million hectares of land at the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, Bohai Sea costal areas and Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region have been affected. The government has mobilized 8 airplanes, more than 20,000 sets of machinery equipment, and 5000 pest control technicians to control the spreadout of locusts.

Henan has declared emergency as the density and scale of the locusts are the record high in the last 25 years. Xinjiang has declared the emergency, so have Shandong, Shanxi and Tianjin. The locusts are now approaching Beijing...
