RMB0.4 billion allocated to fight drought

( Abstract )

The most severe drought in the last 90 years has occurred in Northern China. State development and planning committee allotted RMB0.4 billion to ensure water supply for people, livestock and the production of grain.

There has been little rainfall in China since last winter. Some areas now have a dry soil layer of 7-20 cm. Up to June 13th, 14.4 million hectares of crops were affected. Lot of fields are left empty due to the lack of water. 16.2 million people and 13.7 million livestock do not have enough drinking water. The drought has also contributed to the locust disasters in the area.
