Beijing's air quality will reach the
international standard by 2008

( Abstract )

News from SEPA indicates that Beijing will increase its environmental protection fund by RMB10 billion annually. By 2008, the accumulated environmental protection fund will be RMB100 billion in Beijing.

The main pollution sources in Beijing are coal, vehicles, construction and natural dust in northern China. In the recent years, Beijing adopted many measures to control the pollution. In 2000, the air quality better than Grade III is 85% of the days and the air quality better than Grade II is 45% of the days. From 1998 to 2002, the total environmental protection investment in Beijing will reach RMB47.6 billion. The air quality of Beijing will reach the international standard by 2008.
